housing/ Winter Quarter 2011

Based in the downtown Los Angeles district, this Transitional Housing project address the need of a transition point for those who used to be homeless and are now re-entering mainstream society.
The program includes housing, classrooms, gymnasium, dining area, staff support, and a private chapel. The use of these different area encourage community and group connections, while also allowing for individual development and independence. Adapting back into the everyday routine of most of society willl allow for a more more successful transition.
Program areas such as the classrooms and the gymnasium allow for local neighborhoods to use the facilities, creating a space for gradual integration and interraction for those transitioning. In this way a kind of percolation effect is created, easing the two groups together.
