grill + SHELF

/vellum furniture competition/ November 2012

An old grill, used for multiple camping cookouts and quick grilling, gathers rust, coal, burns and residue. the accumulation of its use eventually inhibits its function, so it is left rusting in a thrift store garage bin.

Through an application of rust remover, primer, and paint, the rust and grime of its use is removed to be replaced by a blank canvas. This then allows it to be reused and repurposed as part of a shelving unit by simply adding structure. New possibilities are revealed when preconceived notions of the expected function of an object are removed.
